Goals for July 2-8, 2017

And birthday month begins! Happy birthday to Katy, who turns 7 today! The OB (Original Boo), the first game changer. My girl!

Happy Birthday to Matthew, who turns 5 on Thursday! Our Basque Bull. The Bubbs. You’re the man!

Happy anniversary to my best friend, Jenn. She has made my life so much more than I ever thought it could be (see the two birthdays above and the one in 2 weeks). Big Brother?

Happy Independence Day to all Americans! I love this country so much. There is no better place, in my opinion, to be with my family, to raise my family and watch my family blossom.

The fact that today there is so much debate about policy, leadership, ethics and what to do about it proves that things here are working. We get to elect our president as a group. And if we don’t like it, we get to pick another one. We have the power to change. The freedom to make our decisions. Every day we wake up with the opportunity to choose if we are going to stand by and accept what comes our way or work our asses off to get what we want. Our future is controlled by us. Not every person gets this. Not every country is in such a great situation. God bless America! The pursuit of happiness is alive!

  • Read / Listen to three books (Shoe Dog, Known, Get Scrappy, Top of Mind, The Content Code)

  • Continue to build network

The quarter went well. The aerobic program went the way I wanted. I got to hang out with Katy and see her in her school setting which was awesome!

Reading and listening to books goes a lot faster than I thought. However, I’ve noticed a couple of things to adjust to this next quarter. First, actually find time to read (not listen) is hard. The only time I get for this is about 10 minutes before bed. I’m pretty much falling asleep by the time I get to bed. The business books are hard to read at that point and I’m probably not retaining much of the info. So I’ll probably change the topic for night reading.

The Open Weakness program has been put off until probably the last quarter. I didn’t think I’d have enough time to really commit to one with all the traveling in July. And, the results from the aerobic program went so good, I want to run through another cycle of that this year. Since the Open Weakness items are mostly stuff I can do inside, the best fit with the weather seems to push toward doing the aerobic cycle starting in mid-August and then moving to the weakness stuff in November. That way I can get in both cycles before the start of The Open next year.

The Basic Training course is still a work in progress. This blog is really helping to build up on ideas that I have.

Goals for the year

  • Run a sub 6 minute mile (start of this year is 6:23)
  • Get Fran time under 5:30 (start of this year is 6:05, finished at 4:48)
  • Validate a new idea via the Will It Fly process
  • Volunteer in Katy’s K class twice and in her first grade class twice
  • Volunteer in Matthew’s K class twice
  • Read or listen to 6 books (Extreme Ownership, Start With Why, The 10X Rule, The Four Hour Work Week, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Disruptive Marketing, Buy Buttons, Shoe Dog, Known, Top of Mind, Get Scrappy)
  • Is Start a Fire a content tool worth using?
